Waste Water

Waste water, if left untreated, is a major source of pollution for the environment.

The importance of treating liquid effluent is continually on the rise as we need to substantially reduce the level of contaminants that liquid effluent contains, so that it can be safely discharged back into the environment or recycled. Volumes of generated sludge are also increasing following the improvement of the efficacy of effluent collection, generating new concerns regarding disposal.

Lonza proposes a different approach to waste water treatment:

Organic coagulants such as our range of Barfloc® FP products offer solutions that can reduce sludge up to 30% and can improve sludge thickness.

Barfloc® FP products facilitate better drainage of the interstitial water when used alone or synergistically with inorganic salts such as FeCl3 and PAC. A reduction of 50% of the necessary dose of inorganic salts can be achieved due to the high cationicity of the product, lowering the metal content of the generated sludge (better in cases when spreading on agricultural land), and resulting in fewer ashes when the sludge is incinerated.

Our active chlorine-based solutions are also the technology of choice as tertiary treatment, helping to reduce odors, bacterial counts and organic content (residual COD) in the discharged effluent.
